At $650 as part of a kit purchase vs. $2000, that's $1350 I can apply to more stuff, like the 14-30 f/4 or a 50 f/1.8 for that really low DOF stuff and an ATIMOS Ninja video recorder, or upgrade my XQD /SD UHS-I cards to CFExpress/SD UHS-II cards. That's even enough for me to sell my existing F mount 70-200 and get the Z mount 70-200.
(There is a 24-70mm f/4 S, but there’s no 70-200mm f/4 S on the roadmap yet, or indeed any lightweight telephoto.) NIKON Z 7 + NIKKOR Z 14-30mm f/4 S @ 18.5mm, ISO 64, 20 seconds, f/5.0 At the time of publishing this article, the 14-30mm f/4 is one of two native ultra-wide lenses for the Nikon mirrorless system (i.e., wider than 24mm).
Nikon Z 24-200mm f/4-6.3 VR vs Nikon F 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6E VR Since Nikon has yet to release a lightweight telephoto zoom for their full-frame Z cameras – other than the superzoom I’m currently reviewing – a lot of photographers have started using the F-mount AF-P 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6E VR lens with the FTZ adapter to cover those focal lengths.

The Nikkor Z 24–70 mm f/4 S is supposed to be a basic lens, offered in a set with a body. As such, it is aimed at less advanced, not so demanding users – photographers who definitely don't need a fast device with journalistic parameters such as 24-70 mm f/2.8. The resolution graph shows clearly that weight and dimensions were a priority here.
MrHollywood wrote: As a walk-around lens, the 24-200 is more versatile than the 24-120 far too often. 120 to 200mm is a huge difference and F4 isn't fast enough to make me switch. The 24-200 is so good that I actually use it more often than the 24-70 2.8 and 70-200 2.8 combo. Robert.

The Nikon Z 14-30mm f/4 S is a lower-grade lens, but still one that potential 14-24mm f/2.8 S buyers may be considering. It’s a less expensive lens at $1300 (sometimes on sale for $1100) and lighter at 485 grams / 1.07 pounds rather than 650 grams / 1.43 pounds – not exactly a surprise considering that it’s an f/4 rather than an f/2.8 lens.
